Peta Fenn Diabetes and Lifestyle Services offers an innovative, independent service for people with diabetes, people who have a weight, blood pressure, heart, cholesterol, impaired sugar metabolism problem or a family history of these, and those providing diabetes services or products. 20 plus years gained as a Lead Diabetes Nurse in Diabetes Centres in the South West and as a Senior Lecturer in universities ensure that Peta (RGN, MSc, PG Dip Ed) has a genuine and extensive knowledge and understanding of the issues in diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease.

This service is aimed at helping:

*The International Diabetes Federation (IDF 2005) say you are at increased risk of diabetes if:

Your waist (measured at the level of your naval/tummy button) is greater than:

Men:94cms/ 37 inches (in Europoid’s) or   90cms (36 inches) (in Asian/Chinese)

Women:80cms/ 32 inches (in Europoid’s) or  79cms (31 inches) (in Asian/Chinese)

Plus you have any two of the following other risk factor measures:

Impaired sugar metabolism i.e. a high blood sugar level test i.e. in pregnancy

vFasting blood sugar level above 5.6mmol/l

vOr previously diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes

Impaired cholesterol metabolism i.e.
v
Triglyceride level greater than 1.7mmol.l

v HDL level lower than 1.03mmol/l in men and 1.29 in women

v Or are on treatment for this health problem

Impaired blood pressure control i.e.

vSystolic blood pressure above 130mmHg (top figure on result)

vDiastolic blood pressure above 85mmHg (bottom figure on result)

vOr are on treatment for this health problem

Other factors that increase your risk also include:
Being over 45 years of age, from certain ethnic origins, have a family history of diabetes, blood pressure, heart, or cholesterol health problems, have Polycystic Ovary Disease, or are taking some medications such as steroid drugs.
